New Technologies and Competition in Artificial Intelligence
China is rapidly pursuing technological self-sufficiency, especially in the field of chips, as restrictions imposed by the United States have limited access to some of the most advanced artificial intelligence chips and chip manufacturing machinery. At this event, Huawei introduced the Atlas 960 SuperPoD computing cluster, which is a faster successor to the Atlas 950 model that was unveiled just a few months ago. This cluster offers improvements in artificial intelligence training and the process of 'inference,' which refers to the time when a trained AI makes predictions or decisions.

Huawei's Future Plans
Huawei also plans to introduce the Ascend 970 and 980 chip series in 2028 and 2029, with expectations of significant improvements in computing power. The timing of this unveiling, less than two weeks before President Xi Jinping's visit to Washington, underscores Beijing's confidence and ambition in technology and innovation. Analysts say that technological advancements in China, such as training artificial intelligence models, are still heavily reliant on American chips, including Nvidia chips, but Huawei has produced its advanced chips and has an edge over other Chinese chip developers.
The unveiling of the Atlas 960 SuperPoD computing cluster has attracted the attention of some technology analysts, as this product was introduced shortly after the release of the Atlas 950 SuperPod last year.
