A recently released video shows the moment two Minnesota police officers, Joseph Mikhnovsky and Yahya Mohammed Ahmad, are approaching the ninth floor of the building. They approach a victim in the hallway when Johnson suddenly appears from a corner and shoots at them. Mikhnovsky is injured in the shooting and retreats to avoid danger.
Consequences of the Incident
After the shooting, Johnson was killed by the police. Local officials have stated that it is still unclear whether the two residents Johnson shot were deliberately targeted or if they encountered him accidentally in the hallway. According to residents and officials, Johnson had a history of threatening neighbors and the building owners were trying to evict him.
At least one resident of the building had requested a restraining order against Johnson. Additionally, in June, police had conducted investigations regarding claims that he had displayed a weapon, but the county prosecutor's office declined to file charges against him.
