Shoba Jiwa, Nasrat's younger brother, stated that she has left no trace since her abduction and her family is deeply affected by this incident. He said: "My sister has been missing for five days and there is no sign of her. We just need prayers. No one knows anything about her. She is a mother of two. Please release her."

Reward and officials' response

Local authorities have set a reward of £12,600 for any reliable information that leads to Nasrat's rescue and the prosecution of the kidnappers. Nasrat and her family moved from Leicester to Malawi for her husband to start a new business.

Nasrat's husband stated in a plea for her release: "I don’t know where she is or how she is doing. My wife is an accountant and I have had no issues with anyone." According to Shoba, Nasrat works at a local auditing firm and described her as a "spirited and beautiful person."

Local authorities have sent text messages to citizens asking them to share any information regarding this matter. Atule Molucci, a local politician, described the incident as "extremely concerning" and added that the number of such incidents in the country is on the rise.

He wrote in a Facebook post: "Kidnapping and abduction in Malawi have become increasingly common, a country where such incidents used to be rare. This is concerning for every Malawian. I urge the Malawi police to intensify their investigations and do everything in their power to ensure Nasrat is safely returned and those responsible are brought to justice."

The British Foreign Office told the BBC that it is aware of reports regarding the kidnapping of a British citizen in Malawi and is in contact with local authorities.
