The Donald Trump administration is working to reduce concerns about artificial intelligence and has promoted its views through its social platform, "Truth Social." While he has stated that artificial intelligence and data centers could be the engine of the greatest economic development in history, some of his supporters have responded to these statements with criticism and dissatisfaction.
Concerns About Artificial Intelligence
Trump has addressed this issue in several posts, stating: "Artificial intelligence and data centers will be the greatest engine of economic development in history - bigger than oil, gold, diamonds, or even the internet." He has also referenced "conspiracy theories" and claimed that only a highly intelligent president can have proper control over artificial intelligence.
However, the reaction of his supporters on this platform, which is generally seen as a safe space for their opinions, has been overwhelmingly negative. One user wrote: "Artificial intelligence is in no way the path we should take."
Divided Opinions Among Republicans
An analysis of the situation shows that Republicans are sharply divided on the construction of data centers; 49 percent support the construction of these centers while 47 percent oppose it. In comparison, three-quarters of Democrats and 60 percent of independents have protested against this issue.
Research indicates that 17 percent of Trump voters believe that artificial intelligence will "almost certainly" lead to the destruction of humanity. These surveys show that many of Trump's supporters are also concerned about the negative impacts of artificial intelligence on their employment.
Concerns about artificial intelligence have intensified since last week with the resignation of a researcher from the company "Anthropic." He warned that those working in this field are moving towards self-operating and dangerous artificial intelligence without sufficient caution. Meanwhile, some tech leaders like Elon Musk and Sam Altman have emphasized the need for more regulation and oversight of this technology.
Trump, however, believes that the real danger lies in slowing down the development of artificial intelligence and allowing China to get ahead in this technology.
