Pavel Sadukha, a Ukrainian activist and critic of Russia, was found on Sunday in the town of Quarteira, located in the Algarve region of Portugal. Sadukha, 56, was from the city of Lviv, Ukraine, and had been living in Portugal for over two decades. In recent years, he had frequently spoken out against Russian propaganda and the Kremlin's efforts to militarize youth.
Details of Sadukha's death
According to local media, the cause of Sadukha's death has not yet been determined, but it is believed to be due to natural causes. He had a history of heart disease, and police found no signs of foul play at the scene. However, the Portuguese public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to examine any potential third-party involvement in his death. Additionally, Sadukha's friends and relatives have called for a full autopsy to be conducted.

Tribute to Sadukha's activism
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha referenced Sadukha in a statement on Facebook, noting that he was one of the rare leaders who never took holidays or breaks for Ukraine. Sybiha added: "His sudden death is a great loss for the Ukrainian community in Portugal and Ukrainians around the world. We have lost a strong advocate for Ukraine, a trusted advisor, and a person with a big heart."
Sadukha was elected as the head of the Ukrainian Union Council in Portugal in 2010 and received the third-class Order of Merit from the President of Ukraine in 2017. He also served as the Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) for Southern Europe and led the Ukrainian Union in Portugal.
In a statement, the Ukrainian World Congress announced: "Pavel also dedicated years of his life to serving the Ukrainian community in Portugal and was one of the strongest voices of Ukrainians in this country. He played a role in organizing solidarity actions for Euromaidan in Portugal during 2013-2014 and organized rallies and calls for support for Ukrainian defenders after Russia's invasion of Ukraine."
Pavel Grid, the head of UWC, also recalled: "Pavel was one of the most respected leaders of the Ukrainian community in Portugal and globally. He was a close friend and someone I could always trust. He deeply cared about Ukraine and its people around the world, and it is a tremendous loss that we will miss him greatly. His memory will always live on."
