The data obtained indicates that 4.5 million migrants, especially in the last decade, have entered the United States and have impacted the country. These migrants have come from over 150 countries, and the immigrant population in this country has reached its highest level.
New Destinations for Migrants
A large number of these migrants went to cities that have historically attracted migrants, such as New York and Miami. However, another group has settled in smaller cities with less developed immigrant communities, such as Elkhart, Indiana; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Dodge City, Kansas. While traditionally most migrants were from Mexico, this increase includes individuals from diverse countries such as India, Ecuador, and Ghana.

Collected Data
The federal government has collected information from the addresses reported by 4.5 million migrants who crossed the Mexican border. This information includes destination postal codes, nationality by country, age, gender, and the dates and border areas where they encountered authorities. Some migrants may never have reached the addresses they provided. However, many of them have remained in their new locations.
The data shows that in one year, border officials encountered migrants from 174 countries, which marks a significant change from the past when they were primarily from Mexico and Central America. For example, Cincinnati has seen a large influx of migrants from West Africa, Uzbekistan, and India.
In New York, the Queens neighborhood has recorded significant arrivals from at least 25 different nationalities. Additionally, in Philadelphia, 11 nationalities with at least 1,000 new arrivals, including Brazil, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, have been identified.
While Florida is recognized as the most popular state among migrants, many Latin American migrants have turned to other locations in search of better job opportunities. For instance, Cubans have moved to Florida in the highest postal codes, but some have also migrated to Louisville, Kentucky; Grand Island, Nebraska; and Odessa, Texas.
Nearly six out of ten migrants released at the border were women and children, which marks a significant difference from previous years. This change is evident across many locations and nationalities.
