Ed Sheeran has claimed that he played no role in the decision to remove Macklemore from his "Loop Tour." This claim raises questions about the extent of artists' control over their tours. Music industry experts state that artists who can fill stadiums usually have significant control over their tours.
Removal of Macklemore and Reactions
Macklemore was removed from the tour after comments he made about Palestine during one of his performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Following this incident, four other supporting artists also withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore. Ed Sheeran mentioned in his Instagram post that the final decision was made by the tour organizers, who stated that the venues did not allow Macklemore to perform.

Role of the Organizer and Venues
Robert Kraft, billionaire owner of the New England Patriots football team and Gillette Stadium, stated that Macklemore was removed due to his recent comments and a history that Kraft described as "anti-Semitic discourse and imagery." Organizers act as the main business entities in a concert tour, and large companies like "Messina Touring Group" typically take on the primary responsibilities.
Ray Waddell, content director of the "Oak View Group," says: "The organizer covers the costs, pays the artists, and interacts with the venues. They sell the tickets, and the artists perform."
However, experts believe that major artists usually have more control over various aspects of the tour. Dean Sheldon Seron, an entertainment lawyer, stated that ultimately, "the celebrities will influence everything."
Many artists have more power and influence in decision-making due to their ability to sell tickets and fill stadiums. Lil Gray, a music artist manager, noted that most of the time, supporting artists have little influence over the tour process, but non-musical issues can be significant for them.
Future of the Tour
Although cancellations in concert tours typically occur due to health issues of the artists, there are no signs of a complete cancellation of Sheeran's tour due to this issue. If such a problem arises, several insurance companies may step in to manage the consequences. However, Waddell stated that all parties are looking to cooperate in the future.
Waddell said: "Ed Sheeran is young and has many tours ahead. This is a business and it won't go away anytime soon."
