Stacy Humphries, a death row inmate convicted of murdering two real estate agents in Georgia, has had his sentence suspended. This ruling came after a late-night intervention by a judge. Humphries was sentenced to death in 2003 for first-degree murder and other crimes.
Details of the Death Sentence in Texas
In Texas, Lajames Norman, 40, is scheduled to be executed on Wednesday at 6 PM local time. Norman was sentenced to death for the fatal shootings of three people in 2005. This execution will be the fifth in Texas this year.

In Georgia, Humphries was initially set to be executed by lethal injection of pentobarbital at 7 PM Eastern Time. However, his legal team filed an appeal citing a new law, which the judge accepted. This law allows individuals who have been abused to appeal if there is a connection between the abuse and the crime.
Review of the Appeal and Its Consequences
Humphries' appeal is currently under review, and state officials are reconsidering the judge's ruling. If the appeals court declines to review this request, the death sentence may be reinstated. Humphries' attorneys also believe that his sentence was influenced by a juror who concealed their biases and pressured others to vote for the death penalty.
According to lawyers, Humphries has physical issues and weighs about 370 pounds (170 kg). He is also unable to lie down due to medical reasons. Prison officials will elevate the bed and place a blanket under his body to facilitate his breathing during the execution.
Regarding Lajames Norman, he and one of his accomplices attacked a house in Edna, located 100 miles southwest of Houston, in search of drugs. After failing to find drugs, they shot three people in that house. Norman was arrested five months later and sentenced to death after confessing to the crime.
Additionally, Norman's lawyers have submitted their final request to the U.S. Supreme Court in an effort to stop the execution. While Norman has been sentenced to death, his accomplice, Kreshawn Remy, has also been sentenced to death for his role in the crime, with his execution scheduled for next week.
