The Trump administration strongly criticized the United States Supreme Court after the court rejected his efforts to limit postal voting in this year's midterm elections. Donald Trump stated that the judges who opposed him are "not my interviewees."
Criticism of Supreme Court Justices
This new criticism is just part of Trump's long history of attacking judges, especially those he appointed himself, who have ruled against him in key cases. He has previously expressed public anger towards the Supreme Court for its decisions regarding citizenship rights and its ability to impose tariffs unilaterally.

The Trump administration suddenly attempted to centralize the role of the United States Postal Service in determining who can vote. However, state election officials announced that there is not enough time to make changes for the November 3 midterm elections and that their systems are already secure and accurate.
Supreme Court Ruling
The Supreme Court issued an emergency ruling on Monday stating that the restrictions would likely fail in court, at least in this year's elections. Trump wrote in a lengthy social media post: "The court's inability and unwillingness to do the right thing for our country will be recorded very negatively in history." He also stated that the court is "under pressure and threat from radical leftists."
Justices Sam Alito and Clarence Thomas publicly opposed this order, and Trump referred to them as "legends." He has appointed three Supreme Court justices: Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh. He continued, saying: "These are not my interviewees for serving on the Supreme Court of the United States, but merely a shadow of their former selves."
Trump also claimed that the court "inflicts trillions of dollars in damage to the United States with astonishing rulings that are so large that it is easily possible for our country to not recover or return to normal."
Trump's History of Criticizing Judges
President Trump has a long history of criticizing judges, often personally, and he consistently evaluates these judges based on their loyalty to him. In instances where Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch have ruled against him in various cases, he has had no hesitation in criticizing them, while praising them if they rule in his favor.
However, this court, led by John Roberts, has ruled in favor of Trump on several of his priorities, particularly in the 2024 decision that stated former presidents hypothetically have the right to immunity from all official actions. This decision paved the way for Trump to run for re-election without the threat of criminal prosecution.
Trump opposes postal voting and incorrectly attributed his loss in the 2020 election to it. A report from the Brookings Institution published in 2025 showed that fraud in postal voting occurred in only about four cases out of every 10 million postal votes.
About one-third of voters use postal voting, and this process has already begun in some states. This decision allows states to continue sending postal ballots under the same processes they used in previous years.
On Tuesday, Trump also complained that the issuance of this decision took too long. He said: "Writing this criticism of the United States Supreme Court is not easy for me - this will likely cost me for years - but as President, it is my duty and commitment to do this for America that we love!"
