Target announced this week its plan to open eight new stores in the United States and introduce a new clothing line for employees. These stores will open in various areas including the Hamptons, New York; Ohio, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia, and Tennessee on October 11.
New Investment and Store Development
The company announced that last year it decided to invest an additional one billion dollars on top of the previous five billion dollars for building new stores and renovating and equipping existing locations. In March, Target celebrated the opening of its 2000th store in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. Additionally, six other stores opened in May in the states of Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey, and North Carolina. The company is also renovating 130 existing stores.

Introduction of New Employee Clothing
Target also announced a new employee clothing line designed by its in-house design team in collaboration with Target's fashion designer and creative director, Isaac Mizrahi. The new employee clothing line, named Collection186, is named after the specific shade of red used by Target, Pantone 186.
Jenna Fox, Senior Vice President of Design, stated, "We designed Collection186 with the store team members in mind, providing them with more options in their wardrobe that clearly represent Target." She also added that along with Mizrahi, the company's in-house designers "created pieces that are fresh, expressive, and thoughtfully functional for how our team moves throughout the day."
The new clothing line includes crew neck t-shirts, collared shirts, cardigans, blazers, and vests.
The company achieved a 5.3 percent increase in its net sales in the second quarter of this year compared to last year, amounting to 26.5 billion dollars.
