Congress members expressed concern over the rising gas prices, describing it as potentially crisis-inducing for Republicans in the midterm elections. This concern was raised as Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, ended the session early and representatives returned home for campaign activities.
Rising Costs in Florida and South Carolina
Aaron Bean, a Republican representative from Florida, pointed out that the average gas price has reached $4.30 per gallon, saying, "These costs have recently increased." Nancy Mace, a Republican representative from South Carolina, also expressed concern about gas prices, stating that filling her Jeep's tank costs $100. She emphasized, "The main issue is the cost of living, and neither party has addressed it."

Reactions to Trump's Promises and the Gas Price Crisis
Meanwhile, Maxine Dexter, a Democratic representative from Oregon, said she is paying more for gas compared to the beginning of the year. She stated, "Gas prices have increased since Trump started the war in Iran." Gas prices have sharply risen following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by the Iranian regime and conflicts in Yemen.
Ralph Norman, a Republican representative from South Carolina, reported that filling his tank cost him $69 and added, "We are at war, and I do not blame the President, but he needs to provide explanations to the American people."
At the same time, some Republicans avoided answering these questions. Nick LaLota from Long Island and Andrew Clyde from Georgia did not respond to inquiries on this matter. In contrast, President Trump stated that the high gas prices are a reasonable cost for the actions taken.
Johnson acknowledged the rise in gas prices at a press conference, saying, "We must clearly accept that gas and diesel prices are currently very high."
Finally, Jim McGovern, a Democratic representative from Massachusetts, described the situation as difficult, saying, "To the point that I couldn't pay cash and had to use a credit card." He also emphasized that Trump is unaware of the gas price situation.
