A swimmer (unknown) lost their life following a shark attack at Sorrento Beach in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The incident occurred on Friday, and eyewitnesses reported seeing blood in the water.
Shark Attacks and Authorities' Response
Western Australia Police confirmed that the male swimmer lost his life as a result of the attack. No further information about the victim has been provided. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development also announced that it is investigating the incident.

Eyewitness Testimony
An eyewitness named Jackie Rapich said: "My friend said, 'Jack, I think there's been a shark attack,' and when I looked at the sea, I could see a pool of blood." Ryan Rowe, another witness, said he was informed that "someone had been bitten by a shark." He added: "I couldn't believe that this amount of blood had come from a human body."
Authorities have closed the beaches to swimmers. In a separate incident, a surfer near Geraldton, about 400 kilometers north of Perth, suffered severe injuries to his leg in another shark attack.
This year, four fatal shark attacks have been confirmed in Australia. In May and June, three spear fishermen lost their lives to sharks along the Australian coast. Additionally, in January, a 12-year-old boy died in the hospital a few days after being attacked by a bull shark in Sydney Harbour.
According to data from the Australian Shark Incident Database, the average number of fatal shark attacks in the country has been between two and three per year since 2000.
