The winner also considered this a blessing and expressed gratitude for being given this unexpected and incredible opportunity.
According to confirmations from the Illinois Lottery, the winner received this prize as a smaller cash payment instead of receiving the full amount that would be paid out gradually. This cash payment is worth approximately $450.5 million, but this amount will be subject to a 24 percent federal tax withholding. Additionally, the winner may face federal marginal taxes and a 4.95 percent state tax in Illinois.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh store in Quincy, Illinois, before the August 12 drawing. This store also received a $500,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
The numbers chosen by the anonymous winner included 4, 26, 66, 67, and 69, with the red Powerball number being 9. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are estimated at 1 in 292,201,338.00.
