NFL Game Viewership Statistics

According to Nielsen data released on Monday by NBC Sports, the NFL opening game—a rematch from Super Bowl LX—averaged over 25 million viewers for the fourth consecutive year. The network reported that the game garnered its largest audience among adults aged 18 to 49 since 2021, averaging 10 million viewers in that demographic across NBC, Peacock, and digital platforms.

Comparison with Trump's Speech

This broadcast coincided with the first night of the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, where Trump delivered a live speech. He claimed that the overall numbers for the event surpassed those of the NFL, but provided no statistics or method to support his claim. Nielsen data showed that Trump's speech had only about 2.5 million viewers, clearly questioning his assertion.

Meanwhile, the first game of the NFL regular season in Australia averaged 18.5 million viewers on Netflix, with the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams peaking at 21.3 million viewers.

Critique of Trump's Speech

Initial statistics indicate that Trump's 105-minute speech on the opening night of the two-day Texas convention attracted fewer viewers than typical Fox News programs like Hannity and Gutfeld! Viewers averaged 2.5 million tuning into Fox News from 9 PM to 11 PM, which is lower than the usual audience for these shows.

Fox News was one of the few major networks to air Trump's full speech, while competitors like CNN, CBS, ABC, and MSNBC opted not to broadcast it in full. Trump promised during his speech that his administration would distribute $5,000 to every American adult if voters help Republicans maintain a majority in Congress until 2026.

Political analysts had predicted that this event would face challenges, and some Republican activists described the gathering as a disaster.
