Chicago Bears delivered a powerful performance with a 59-37 victory over Carolina Panthers in the first week of the NFL. In this game, Colston Lawland, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden, the team's three main targets, experienced relatively quiet days, but this did not affect the outcome.
Chicago's Offensive Performance
Jahed Walker, wide receiver, said on Monday: "We have a lot of weapons, so the ball gets to whoever it needs to." He caught one of two touchdown passes from Kaleb Williams in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard touch. Williams also recorded 65 yards and two touchdowns, and Chicago gained 291 yards on the ground in this game, marking the highest score in the franchise's opening history.

Key Player Performances
Lawland, Odunze, and Burden were among the top four receivers for Chicago last season when the team finished with an 11-6 record, winning the NFC North. Lawland recorded 58 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season. Burden finished his first year with 47 receptions for 652 yards and two touchdowns, while Odunze recorded 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns in his second season.
In the game against the Panthers, Lawland did not catch any passes, Odunze had a 47-yard reception in the first quarter and then caught only one more 5-yard pass. Burden also fumbled the ball on Chicago's first possession and ended up with five receptions for 63 yards.
Defense and Upcoming Challenges
Chicago's defense, especially in the front line and secondary, entered the season as a major question mark. After the first week, this remains a concern. Chicago recorded only two sacks, and Bryce Young of Carolina Panthers finished with 23 completions out of 37 attempts, 361 yards, and three touchdowns. The Panthers also gained 125 yards on 22 attempts.
Kalif Raymond had a notable performance in his first game for Chicago with eight receptions for 84 yards. He also had a 23-yard punt return in his 10th NFL year. Raymond, who signed a one-year deal in free agency, had the most targets from Williams with nine receptions and seems to have established a good connection with him.
In this game, Tyrique Stevenson, the fourth-year cornerback, had a poor performance and was burned by Jalen Carter on a 51-yard touchdown reception. He also missed a tackle on Carter's 8-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Johnson stated that the team came out of the game in relatively good shape, despite Braxton Jones and Stevenson suffering injuries during the game.
Chicago achieved a shared record for the most touchdowns in an NFL opening season game with six touchdowns in this game. The Bears will host the Minnesota Vikings next week, a team they faced twice last season with one win and one loss against them.
