A man in his fifties, Mel Ismail, was seriously injured due to a shark attack on the shores of Glenfield located in Western Australia. The incident occurred at 9:45 AM on Monday while Ismail was about 40 meters from the shore.
Medical Condition and Incident Details
Ismail was rushed to Glendron Hospital in critical condition and has sustained serious injuries to his legs. According to officials, Ismail is one of the well-known surfers in the area and has been visiting these shores for years.

Reactions from Officials and the Local Community
Local officials, in light of this incident, have begun collecting damaged surfboards from the scene to identify the type of shark involved. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development announced that no shark activity had been reported in the Glendron area in the 30 days prior to this incident.
The beach was closed following the incident, and residents were prohibited from approaching it. Kadin Kato, a local resident, stated that the incident has shocked the community. He expressed that his family has been enjoying this beach for years and has never felt unsafe before.
Kierly Ware, the Glendron MP, said she is looking into further details from officials and added, “We are really a close-knit community, and when something like this happens, it has a significant impact.” She also called for a review of shark mitigation strategies in the state.
Minister of Fisheries, Jackie Jarvis, defended the state's protocols, stating, “Western Australia has one of the most comprehensive shark risk reduction strategies in the country, utilizing a range of measures to ensure public safety.”
This attack is the latest in a series of serious shark incidents in Western Australia this year. In May, 38-year-old Steven Metaboni lost his life while fishing with a spear gun on Rottnest Island. Additionally, in early June, a 35-year-old diver named Daniel Turpin was killed by a 4.5-meter shark near Michaelmas Island.
