Independent voters in Texas reported that 68 percent stated that the Republican convention in Dallas had no effect on their enthusiasm for voting. This comes as Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, described the event as a "strong win for Republicans."
No Impact on Independent Voters
The Republican convention is typically held every four years to introduce presidential candidates and their running mates. However, at the recent event, Trump held a two-day conference to garner support for Republican candidates. Nevertheless, a recent poll showed that 59 percent of Texas Republican voters felt a positive impact from the convention on their voting enthusiasm, while 53 percent of Democratic voters felt the same way.

Close Competition in Texas
In Texas, there is a close race in the Senate elections between Ken Paxton, the Republican Attorney General, and his Democratic rival James Talarico. Polls show that Talarico has 47 percent and Paxton has 46 percent of the support from Texas voters. During his speeches, Trump harshly criticized Paxton and mocked him for his appearance, while at the same time describing him as "the best Attorney General in America."
Trump also promised in his speech that if Republicans win the elections, every adult American would receive "Trump bucks." He said, "If Republicans win, you win with us and receive $5,000." This promise faced criticism regarding bribery and questions about the source of funding for this money.
Treasury Secretary Scott Basset assured that the Trump administration could find a way to fund these checks without increasing the nation's $40 trillion debt, but did not disclose details.
Before the convention, there were concerns that Trump, with low public approval ratings, might harm the campaigns of Republican candidates. According to a poll, Trump had a negative approval rating of 18 percent, and 52 percent of Americans disapproved of his handling of immigration.
