A federal judge ordered on Thursday that the Kennedy Center must notify 30 days in advance of any major physical changes to the building, including its demolition. Temporary Closure of the Kennedy Center
Previously, a senior official at the Kennedy Center announced that the center was temporarily closed due to "acute hazards to public safety arising from continued structural deterioration." The temporary closure on Wednesday was carried out without prior notice and was separate from the board's vote the day before for the indefinite closure of the center for repairs.
