Greg Stanton, the Governor of California, has stated that if Kamala Harris, the former Vice President, runs in the 2028 presidential election, he will also withdraw his candidacy. These remarks were made in an interview with a reporter and signify a shift in the political landscape among Democrats.
Reasons for Not Running
In an interview with a CNN reporter, Stanton noted that two California Democrats in one election could potentially harm each other, which could benefit other rivals. He said: "Why should I do that? I don't want to waste everyone's time."

These comments come as Stanton is recognized as one of the leading Democratic candidates in the upcoming presidential election. Although he is still considering the possibility of his candidacy, he clearly emphasizes that he will support Harris's presence.
Support for Kamala Harris
Stanton has previously supported Harris and considers her the best option to tackle the challenges facing Democrats. He tweeted: "No one can stand against Donald Trump's dark vision better than Harris and guide the country towards a healthier future."
The Governor of California also mentioned his family and the impact of political decisions on them. He said: "I have four children, and that is the only thing that matters to me. They need to support this decision." This point indicates that his family life also plays a role in his political decision-making.
The presence of other prominent Democratic candidates such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pete Buttigieg also adds to the competition for the 2028 election. According to recent polls, Harris and Stanton have garnered 17% and 14% of voter support, respectively.
