The stabbing of a Sikh truck driver at a rest area in Wyoming has created new worries among the Sikh community in the United States. The incident took place on Sunday at the Bitter Creek rest area located on Interstate 80, between the cities of Cheyenne and Salt Lake City.
Details of the Incident
According to court documents, the Sikh driver was attacked from behind and sustained injuries to his neck and chest. He also suffered more than a dozen other cuts but survived. While police have not yet determined the motive for the attack, it follows fatal incidents involving Sikh truck drivers that have increased hatred towards this group.

Response from the Sikh Community
Hussain Sang, CEO of Gillson Trucking in California, stated that he has never felt such hatred in the past 25 years. He noted that anti-Sikh tensions have particularly increased in truck driving-related communities.
Police are still investigating the motive for the attack. The case is being handled by the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office. According to Jeff Shiman, a spokesperson for the department, the suspect in the attack, identified as Andrew Chris Bozdak, was arrested after fleeing the scene. People at the scene informed the police of his whereabouts, leading to Bozdak's capture in Carbon County.
Footage from a truck's camera at the rest area shows the driver calmly entering the restroom, followed by a man identified by police as Bozdak. Minutes later, Bozdak exits the restroom, and the injured driver, who is struggling to walk, follows him.
Bozdak is currently in jail on a one million dollar bail and is facing charges of attempted murder. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment.
Social Implications
The Sikh community in the United States is estimated to be around 750,000, with many residing in California. Sikh men are recognized for their beards, long hair, and turbans, and a significant number work as truck drivers. Estimates suggest that at least 150,000 Sikh truck drivers are employed in the United States.
Recent incidents, such as a fatal accident in 2025 caused by an illegal turn by a Sikh truck driver in Florida, have fueled tensions and discrimination against this community. Additionally, last October, a Sikh truck driver was charged in another fatal accident for being under the influence of drugs.
U.S. Homeland Security officials have confirmed the illegal status of these two drivers, and some members of the Sikh community believe these allegations have exacerbated anti-immigrant hatred.
Jasjit Sang, director of legal services for the Sikh community group, stated that this attack is clearly related to racial discrimination, and the Sikh community feels that no action will be taken to improve the situation until a serious incident occurs.
The victim of this incident returned home after spending five days in the hospital and hopes to drive a truck in Wyoming again. However, Hussain Sang, the trucking company CEO, expressed concern that similar incidents may occur in the future.
