Ohio Congresswoman Praised for Challenging Trump

2 h ago

Joyce Beatty, Democratic Representative from Ohio, has been praised for challenging President Donald Trump's proposed changes at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Robert Kennedy, referred to Beatty as a "national hero" on social media and commended her for standing up in support of the Kennedy Center and the nation's history.

Beatty's Legal Challenge Against Trump

Beatty recently filed a lawsuit against Trump's efforts to rename the Kennedy Center after himself. A federal court issued a ruling this week preventing the President from placing his name on this center, which is a memorial to John F. Kennedy. Judge Christopher Cooper emphasized in his ruling that "defendants cannot install memorials for President Trump or anyone else at the Kennedy Center without congressional approval."

Trump's Reaction and Its Consequences

Following the ruling, Beatty stated that Trump became extremely angry during a meeting with the board of the Kennedy Center, which he chairs. The Ohio representative described the meeting as the "most unprofessional" situation she has ever seen, noting that Trump referred to her as a "roadblock" and "fool." The board, under Trump's control, then voted to close the Kennedy Center.

The Trump administration has claimed that fundraising efforts may face challenges without adding his name to the center. Trump has stated that he will not begin his multi-million dollar renovation project unless the courts allow his name to be placed on the building.

A White House spokesperson previously said, "For decades, Democrats have allowed the Kennedy Center to deteriorate while water damage has spread and infrastructure has decayed." In contrast, Democrats, including Beatty, have labeled Trump's renaming effort as a "self-serving project."
