St. Mary's Glacier in Clear Creek County, Colorado has completely melted, and this phenomenon has disappointed visitors. This glacier, which was once a permanent snowfield, has now disappeared due to climate change caused by human activities.

Jeremy Elder, a resident of Idaho Springs, noticed during his visit to the site on Monday that the snowfield had completely vanished. In an interview with a local media outlet, he stated: "I was shocked to see no snow there. It was truly sad to see this situation. We have had a very warm summer, and considering the weak snow from last winter, all these factors contributed to the melting of the glacier."

History of St. Mary's Glacier
St. Mary's Glacier has existed for hundreds of years and has even survived warm summers. However, now, due to climate change and global warming, this snowfield no longer exists. This situation is not surprising for those who have witnessed the decline of glaciers worldwide over the past 39 years.
Jordan Lip, another visitor and resident of Golden, stated that he has traveled to this area more than 100 times in the past 30 years and based on his observations of the glacier's decline, he expected the glacier to completely disappear this summer. During his recent visit on September 12, he found that only "two small patches of snow" remained. Four days later, he returned to St. Mary's Glacier and found it completely empty.
Consequences of Climate Change
The melting of St. Mary's Glacier is just one example of the effects of climate change currently observed around the world. Reports indicate that glaciers across the globe have been declining for the past 39 years. In Colorado, average annual temperatures have increased by about 2.3 degrees Fahrenheit from 1980 to 2022.
Jonathan Ingraham, editor of the outdoor section of Rocky Mountain Magazine, stated during his visit to the area after the glacier melted: "The first thing that came to my mind was that this glacier and snowfield have probably completely melted for the first time. I felt a sense of wonder and surrealism."
While snowstorms may likely return snow to this area in the near future, it remains unclear whether the snowfield will continue as a permanent snowfield or become a seasonal feature that melts in the summer.
