Clementon Park and Splash World in New Jersey permanently closed on September 7 after the end of the 2026 season, and its ownership is now seeking a buyer to acquire the property.
History of Establishment and Ownership Changes
This location opened in 1907 as a trolley park at the end of a transportation line. The park was established by state assembly member Theodore B. Gibbs and his sons and remained independently owned by local families until 2007. In that year, the park was sold to a private amusement operator.
Throughout its long history of operation, this location survived a major fire in 1931 that nearly destroyed its grounds. Various management groups expanded the property in the following decades, adding thrilling rides, roller coasters, children's attractions, and a 23,000 square foot wave pool. The park remained under family ownership until 1977.
Recent Changes and Closure
Chicago-based IB Parks & Entertainment purchased the property in 2021 for approximately $2.37 million at a bankruptcy auction, following a brief closure by previous operators in 2019. Clementon Park is one of five amusement properties owned by this company.
After five operating seasons under current ownership, the management team decided to cease operations and put the property on the market. It is still unclear who may come forward to purchase the property.
The Clementon Park and Splash World team stated on their website: "Maintaining a place that has meant so much to family generations has been an honor. We hope to find a new buyer who shares our love for Clementon Park and will continue its history and legacy."
This park, covering 52 acres, included attractions such as the Haunted Wooden Coaster, the wooden ride King Neptune's Revenge, and the Dragon Coaster. Additionally, the park previously featured the Jack Rabbit, a wooden coaster that opened in 1919 and operated until 2002.
The park management has announced that more details regarding the sale process will be released soon, concluding with a reminder of appreciation for everyone who participated in this journey over the past five seasons.
