President Donald Trump is facing widespread negative reactions from Americans regarding his management of artificial intelligence. According to a poll conducted at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, only 23% of Americans believe that Trump has managed this issue well, while 57% of respondents rated his performance as poor.
Trump's Negative Score on AI Management
Senior data analyst at CNN, Harry Enten, stated: "The people of America hate how President Trump is managing artificial intelligence." He added that Trump's approval score in this area, which is the result of subtracting disapproval from approval, is a negative 34 points, and this figure has worsened over the year. In March, this score was close to a negative 25 points.
Concerns About AI Security
President Trump, known for using AI-generated images and videos on social media, has called for reduced oversight of this technology. While the largest AI companies are calling for a halt to development in the interest of safety, Trump has ignored safety concerns regarding this technology, stating that the United States is ahead of China in artificial intelligence.
In response to a question about the need to slow down or increase oversight of the AI industry, he said: "We are ahead of China in artificial intelligence. We are the most advanced country in the world, and that is why I want this situation to continue; because whoever wins in artificial intelligence will win."
Trump has also referred to concerns about AI in his posts on the social media platform Truth Social as a "conspiracy" and stated that these issues benefit China.
In addition to concerns about the dangerous capabilities of AI, many Americans are worried about the construction of data centers that support this technology. They have pointed to the negative consequences of these centers on the environment and their quality of life.
A senior White House official said: "Trump looks at the polls and pays attention to what people are saying. The polls do not necessarily reflect a good status regarding data centers, but it is up to us to explain our position."
Furthermore, Trump has blamed Democratic Party members for the rising concerns about AI and wrote in one of his posts: "These are all radical Democrats who never give up, but rarely win. I hope voters have seen the light!"
