Donald Trump, at a special dinner for outdoor enthusiasts and industry leaders in the Rose Garden of the White House, stated that as President, he has enough power to ban fishing.
Signing Executive Orders
Trump made this remark at the dinner held on Thursday. During the event, he signed executive orders aimed at expanding hunting and fishing opportunities and overturning some of the restrictions from the Biden era.
One of the executives present at the event, Johnny Morris, the billionaire founder of Bass Pro Shops, was addressed by Trump, who told attendees that his executive orders would help expand the fishing season and assist industries related to this activity.
Power of the Presidency
Trump continued, saying: "This means you can sell a lot of fishing rods, Johnny. You are going to sell a lot of rods. I could act in a way that you couldn't sell anything. I could ban fishing."
He also told attendees that only one other president could compete with him in supporting American hunters and fishermen: "American hunters and fishermen have not had a better friend in the Oval Office in recent years. Probably the late President Theodore Roosevelt was very good."
Renovation Projects at the White House
At the event, Trump also referenced his recent renovation projects in Washington D.C., stating: "We have done a lot of work at the White House." He mentioned the renovation of the Rose Garden, which had been paved to create a patio in the style of Mar-a-Lago.
Trump also noted the new black and white helipad designed in the shape of the presidential seal, built in the South Lawn of the White House. He said: "What they have done with stone, with six-inch granite, beautifully carved with a beautiful eagle, is a helipad where helicopters can land. We have never had this."
In another event in the Oval Office in July, Trump stated that Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of the large defense contractor Lockheed Martin, is covering the cost of the helipad due to feeling "a little guilty" for not warning about the power of the fleet of helicopters that will be completed in 2024 for use as Marine One for the President.
