War brings a world of pain and suffering, and in this context, Ukrainian women and children are especially at the forefront of this crisis. As Russian bombings continue, the daily lives of these individuals are horrifically affected, and their hands tremble from fear.
A Remembrance of the Past
The story of my grandmother, who faced the Nazi invasion of her village at the age of 17, recalls how she managed to escape the clutches of enemy forces and return home. This story represents the power of survival and the love of life that is embedded in the hearts of past generations. My grandmother remembers how hard life was during the war, but she always considered herself lucky.
Today, in Kyiv, my friends and I witness the devastating effects of war on our lives. One of my friends tells me that her hands tremble during air raids. This shared feeling among us reflects the fear and anxiety that casts a shadow over our daily lives.
Courage in the Face of Fear
During one of the bombings in the Donetsk region, I experienced a mental crisis from which I have never been able to return to normalcy. Now, in a way, I am recognized as a representative for those whose hands tremble from fear. These experiences remind not only me but everyone in similar situations of how love and hope can survive in the heart of the darkness of war.
Despite all the challenges and hardships, we remain committed to our love and kindness. This war cannot erase our tenderness, for ultimately, what keeps us standing against this crisis is our love for one another and for life.
