On an ordinary day, no one could imagine that their life would change from that day onward. September 11, 2001, was the day when New York firefighters, especially eight firefighter brothers, lost their lives in the effort to save others. One of the survivors of this incident recalls the day that changed his life forever with bitter memories.
The Sound of Bells and Bitter Memories
He remembers the time when the sound of warning bells, known as PASS alarms, echoed beneath their feet. This sound was a noise of terror and anxiety, signaling a great danger. "Everything was collapsing, and we could only listen to those sounds," he says. The sound of the bells reminds him of painful memories of his brothers who are no longer with us.
He recalls how on that day, his brothers rushed towards the fire and danger while he and others were worried about their safety. "We knew what they were doing, and there was nothing we could do. We could only pray," he continues.
A Reminder of Loss
This survivor holds gatherings every year on September 11th in memory of his firefighter brothers. He believes that these ceremonies are not only a reminder of them but also an opportunity to share his memories and life experiences with others. "We must keep their memory alive," he says. This pain and sorrow will never be forgotten, and he will always be searching for ways to remember them.
